OTT: The Big Story at NAB – And Beyond!

You didn’t have to be at NAB last month to know that OTT video is hot, but it didn’t hurt.  No matter where you turned, it seemed impossible to escape demonstrations, presentations and panel discussions addressing the opportunity to go direct to consumers for pay-TV operators, traditional broadcasters and programmers, and content providers of all sizes.

Whether it was Dexter Goei’s keynote lifting the curtains on Altice’s plans to integrate non-linear OTT video into its product lineup or the 60% rise in TV Everywhere viewing on TV-connected devices, it was clear that pay-TV is very much in the OTT mix.  Broadband Technology Report noted that the emphasis of “making a real business of OTT,” including such pay-TV hallmarks as monetization, security and Quality of Experience (QoE).

From our vantage point, we saw a lot of interest in our OTT-as-a-Service platform that jumpstarts the ability of content providers to bring new or better cross-platform services to market quickly.  Look for more details very soon as we get ready to move the product into the spotlight at Broadcast Asia later this month. Our Android TV solution also appears to be ahead of the curve, and we are excited about our Intel SGX collaboration for securing 4K delivery to consumer devices.

In the wake of NAB last week Randall Rothenberg of the Interactive Advertising Bureau continued the conversation with remarks on how digital video has become completely mainstream for consumers, and Gartner released research predicting that a million households in emerging markets will come on line by the end of the decade.  As hot as OTT was at NAB, everything points to its getting even hotter in the weeks and months ahead.  We’re looking forward to playing a big part in the journey!
