Why I hate the phrase "over-the-top" (OTT)?

I shiver when I hear folks use the phrase over-the-top. Why you ask?

Simply because the definition hinges on content not coming from the cable operator. In effect, it refers to a business model however, it is often used to refer to a service and underlying technology for delivering a video experience to devices over IP.

In the future, all video will be delivered over IP whether it is coming from a cable operator or third party. At some point it is indistinguishable to the user.

Maybe the operators need a new phrase over-the-toping-ourselves (Otto). But what about the case where the cable operator is going over a telco network to deliver video - Over-the-toping-of-the-other-guy (ottotog) :)

THE FIVE PRIVACY PRINCIPLES OF ALTICAST

The Alticast Privacy Principles reflect how we handle data protection and privacy.

1. Alticast has many years of experience with developing end-to-end media technology solutions that enable service providers to quickly and reliably deliver innovative TV experiences to their customers. We comply with strict statutory regulations. This means that we are legally required to process and store personal data. We are open and clear about this in our privacy statement.
2. Alticast uses strict rules for processing personal data, and we regularly evaluate the functioning of the rules. We process personal data that is relevant and necessary to give customers a wonderful customer experience and to be a good employer for our staff.
3. Alticast has taken appropriate organisational and technical security measures for dealing with the personal data of customers and employees. Only people with the correct level of authorisation are able to access personal data. If we engage external parties, we only do so once we have made solid agreements about the safe processing of personal data. We take measures to prevent data breaches, but should these occur, we inform the parties concerned and the regulatory authority when necessary.
4. Alticast develops new systems according to the principles of "privacy by design" and "privacy by default". These mean that privacy aspects are included in the design process, and we always start from the most privacy-friendly level.
5. Alticast wants to offer transparent, clear information about which personal data we process, why this is necessary, and how we handle the processing of personal data. We will assist any customers, employees or other persons concerned who require further details or information on this.

- by clicking the "unsubscribe" link at the bottom of the Alticast emails;
- by specifying via Alticast's website contact form that you no longer wish to receive commercial communication from Alticast;
- by indicating this in writing to Customer Services using the postal address below.
When you unsubscribe to commercial communications from us, we will remove you from the mailing list as quickly as possible. This normally occurs within 1-3 working days. Because of the processing time and production schedules, you may receive the communications that were already in production.
