is an interactive services automation system that acts as the foundation of an open
standards iTV broadcast facility.
It is easily integrated with existing terrestrial, cable, satellite or IPTV digital head-end systems to
enable content management, scheduling, return path management, and play-out of applications.
Designed as a modular system, AltiSynchro™ minimizes risk and efficiently expands iTV capabilities
as viewer demands evolve.
Market proven system
High stability, high performance
Easily integrated with MUX, TCS, CAS and iAD system
1:1 Full redundancy system
Easy to use windows-based user interface to manage and monitor system
Easy to expand as highly modularized system
Supports various standards (MHP, OCAP etc.)
Data Server (DS)
Content management server for iTV applications
AppManager: Provides a separate GUI client for application management
Supports application metadata
Enables real-time data updates
Data Encoder (DE)
Encodes iTV applications according to open standards (DVB-MHP, OCAP, etc)
Retrieves application files and metadata from the DS as controlled by the Multiplex Manager
Guarantees stable output up to 60Mbps
Highly scalable
Additional DEs can be installed as needed
Multiplex Manager (MM)
Automation system for iTV applications
Controls AltiSynchro™ server components based on application schedules
Application schedules can be acquired from various sources such as Scheduler UI and
Traffic & Control System
SI Generator (SI)
Selectively generates SI tables for various standards (MPEG-2, DVB-MHP, OCAP, etc)
Capable of generating SO-localized SI tables
Synchro Agent (SA)
Receives A/V Schedule from the traffic and control system (TCS)
Receives Start-trigger from the automatic program controller (APC)
Data Agent Manager (DAM)
Provides common user interface for managing and controlling multiple Data Agents
IP Encapsulation Module can manage IP to MAC address mappings, acquire content, perform
limited IP mapping, and inject content into the stream.
The Content Management and Digital Rights Management (CM/DRM) Module allows the
agents in a content stream to set usage limitations and enforce those limitations. The
CM/DRM Module associates the content with the digital rights in a secure manner, and the
rights are utilized to determine content usage rights.
AltiSynchro™ is built for the multiplexer and meets the requirements of standard DVB-T
deployments. In order to provide large-scale DVB-S, DVB-C, DVB-T, OCAP or IPTV deploy-
ments, a Scalability Module must be added to support the additional services, transports, and
interactive applications.
The Data Insertion Module handles the acquisition of various types of data, and injects the
data for use by the application running on the set-top box. The Data Insertion Module allows
for the acquisition and periodic insertion of application data into the DSM-CC carousels. This
is especially useful for applications such as weather, news and stock Information.
The Redundancy Module still uses a single user interface to control both the primary and
hot-spare systems, and the databases are kept in Synchronization with existing database
technologies from Oracle. The Redundancy Module also includes a DVB-ASI monitoring
switch that detects whether a signal is present or not, and switches to the hot-spare in the
case of a failure.
The Security Management Module assists with the management of application certificates,
reclamation lists (RCLs) and other requirements of DVB-MHP. The Security Management
Module also includes any necessary transmission of certificates or RCLs in the data
carousel.
The iTV Synchronization Module assists with the acquisition of the relative time stamps from a
third party, the correlation of those time stamps into absolute time stamps, and the insertion
of the MHP stream events, along with any associated event data into the DSM-CC carousels.
